Ideal Protein is a medically designed weight loss method that is supervised only by healthcare professionals.  It is a muscle-sparing, fat-targeting weight loss protocol.  Ideal Protein has a beginning and an end where we not only take the weight off and make you healthy, we give you the tools to keep it off.

What the Program Includes

On this protocol, you will eat 4 times per day: 3 Ideal protein foods (from over 70 products), 4 cups of vegetables, 2 large salads, and a generous 6-8 oz. serving of lean protein, such as chicken, beef, fish or pork.  This is a substantial volume of food and the program is protein rich (not high protein) so you will not feel hungry.

The Science Behind It

As a result of following a ketogenic-based diet, the patient will use up their glycogen storage and the body will revert to use its other sources of stored calories for energy: fat and muscle. To minimize the body’s use of muscle via gluconeogenesis, we provide it with sufficient protein in a form (isolates) which is highly bioavailable (95%) so it is easily usable by the body.

Once the patient is in ketosis, their insulin level will drop substantially and the other master hormone, glucagon, will start being produced. With time, the reduction in insulin will allow the insulin receptors to become re-sensitized, reducing the amount of insulin needed.

Lose Weight and Keep It Off

As important as losing weight is, keeping it off is harder and more important. Ideal Protein also offers you the education on how to make the lifestyle changes to keep the weight off. During the entire time you are on the protocol, you will receive a 3-minute video each day on a broad range of relevant topics. You will also have access to over 60 cooking videos by a Le Cordon Bleu chef and videos done by a well-known personal trainer to assist with “core strengthening.” You will even continue to receive videos once you are in the maintenance phase, so you will always be connected to and supported by your Ideal Protein clinic.

This weight loss program, is a medically designed and coached program designed for you to lose pounds per week until your goal is achieved. Once the goal is achieved, you start to get more and more food from the grocery until that's all you get. This is a carbohydrate reduced program not a "no carbohydrate" program and that's one of the ways it works so well.

The protocol was developed over 20 years ago by Dr. Tran Tien Chanh MD, PhD who focused his career and research on nutrition with a particular emphasis on the treatment of obesity. The program consists of 4 phases: weight-loss in the first two phases by using Ideal Protein meal replacements and maintenance in the last two phases.

We offer high quality protein and nutritious foods which are available in over 50 delicious varieties. The diet has a beginning and an end, and we will teach you how to eat right once you are done with the program.


UNDERSTANDING THE CAUSE OF WEIGHT GAIN WILL HELP YOU CONQUER IT

According to Dr. Tran Tien, “The cause of many weight issues in a modern society is insulin dysfunction. A diet grossly disproportionate in its share of saturated fats and sugars, such as in breads, cereals, muffins, cakes, pastries, pasta, pizza, rice, corn – very much like the North American diet – causes the pancreas to produce an overabundance of insulin, which stays in the system and puts the blood sugar level in a negative balance.”

An overproduction of insulin may lead to hypoglycemia or low glycemia, which in turn may induce constant sugar cravings and weight gain. One of Insulin’s primary functions is to regulate blood sugar levels, however, it is also the hormone that facilitates the transport of fat (triglycerides) into the fat cells. Even worse, it “locks” the fat into the fat cell, preventing it from being used as a source of energy. Now, because the blood sugar has dropped (and we can’t access the fat as a fuel source) it creates “sugar cravings’ and the vicious cycle begins again. In other words, an overabundance of insulin can cause weight gain.


The Core Principles of Ideal Protein

To lose weight one must obviously consume fewer calories than are expended. However to specifically target fat loss we need to take into account the following factors The body has four compartments of energy from which it draws its metabolic needs:

  1. Blood glucose
  2. Glycogen
  3. Muscle
  4. Fat
The body draws on these reserves in a very specific order. First, the body burns the glucose in the blood and then reaches the glycogen reserves. Once the glycogen is exhausted, then and only then, will the body start burning muscle and fat compartments. If we replenish the glycogen (by eating carbohydrates) the fat burning stops until it is once again depleted. Therefore, in order to compel the body to live off of its own fat reserves, we need to restrict the consumption of sugars (simple and complex) until 100% of your weight loss goal is achieved.
